About The School

 St. Mary’s School in Kalyanpur is run by the Catholic Diocese of Baruipur. Already from 1850 the Catholic Church in this region of South 24-Parganas as part of Archdiocese of Calcutta has been pervading into the lives of children by providing them formal education and laying a strong foundation for them to become integrated human persons.

 Eventually Baruipur diocese emerged out of the archdiocese of Calcutta in the year 1977. Carrying on the baton, the diocese has been promoting education of the poor and the marginalised by starting various educational institutions and through various sponsorship programmes.

 Today the diocese runs three primary schools, one high school, three hostels and one technical school. Besides, it coordinates 20 schools run by various Catholic institutions in its region.

 St. Mary’s School is an English Medium School catering for the upliftment of the children in rural area irrespective of caste, creed and religion. The school is a minority run institution and hence preference will be given for the admission of Christian students.

 Bengali is taught as second language and is compulsory. Indian Classical Dances, Music, Art and physical Training are part of our School Curriculum.

 Since we consider character formation of each student is of paramount importance, Value Education, lessons on Moral Conduct and Catechism classes for Christians are integral part of our educational system.

 Pupils may be required to take part in extra-curricular activities such as dance, drama, games, music, art and singing. Participation in these activities and practice after the school hours / Saturday / Sunday may be necessary and so compulsory. Excuses for absence will not be entertained.

CURRICULUM :

Our curriculum is life-oriented. It caters to the entirety of a human person – physical, intellectual, mental and spiritual. There is all-round development in a student that makes him/her stand abreast in the present world. The curriculum can be roughly divided into the following points:

 Physical : Physical education is given importance because a healthy mind resides in a healthy body. Special classes are assigned to keep the students bodily healthy.

 Mental and Spiritual : Through catechism, moral science/value education classes, the students are made to inculcate values of life that help them to face the challenges of life.

 Intellectual : This area is covered by providing formal education in various subjects specified in the syllabus.

 Nature : As we are part of a big cosmic family, the students are taught to love nature and become nature-friendly. They learn to live with it and in it and take necessary steps for its preservation.

 Art and Music : The children are given ample opportunities to display their love for art and music.

 Social skills : The children are taught to respect, appreciate, accept and adapt to the customs, etiquette and culture of the society.
